João Coelho was born in 2005 in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. He began his musical studies at the age of eight at the Lethes School of Music, under the guidance of Professor Ricardo Rocha, and later attended the Amadeus School of Music.
In 2023, he completed the String Instrument Performer Course at ARTEAM, in the class of Professor Rodrigo Peixoto.
He continued his training with guitarist and pedagogue Francisco Gomes, aiming to deepen his technical and artistic knowledge and to prepare for admission to a prestigious European higher education institution. In June 2025, he was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, one of the most renowned institutions in the field of musical performance, where he currently studies.
Throughout his academic and artistic career, João Coelho has had the opportunity to work with several conductors, including Javier Viceiro, Diogo Costa, Vítor Lima, César Lima, Gonçalo Dias, Jaime Álvarez, Armando Gonzales, and João Passos.
Further enriching his education, he has participated in numerous masterclasses with distinguished guitarists and teachers such as Francisco Gomes, Graham Devine, Evan Rothstein, Dejan Ivanović, Michalis Kontaxakis, Judicaël Perroy, Pedro Rufino, Francisco Luis, and Pedro Rodrigues.
Since 2025, he has intensified his performance activity, regularly appearing in recital. He has performed at various venues and events, notably Facha, Vitorino das Donas, Correlhã, Igreja Matriz, Expolima, and the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho in Ponte de Lima; Amadeus Music Center, AP–Dona Aninhas, ARTEAM, Santiago da Barra, Mosteiro de S. Romão de Neiva, Casa Museu de Monção, in Viana do Castelo; as well as Subportela and Academia de Música Fernandes Fão.
